Eid 1434

Message from Mufti Ebrahim Desai (Hafidhahullah)

While we celebrate Eid, we cannot forget the plight and suffering of the Ummah in Syria, Egypt, Palestine, Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia, Yemen,  Mali, Chechnya, Burma, and the Rohingya Muslims.

We have a tendency to attribute the blame for the plight of the Ummah to the enemies of Islam and external forces. Such an attitude is incorrect. Islam has always been subjected to external interferences. This will continue. Our focus should be on our weakness and repairing that.

Our downfall as an Ummah is disunity. We have become selfish and self-centred and our concern is to protect our interests and position. We would even use the enemies of Islam against our own people to safeguard our power base. Had there been unity in the Ummah, we would never have witnessed an occupied Palestine or bloodshed in Syria or a coup in Egypt, or systematic attacks in Burma.

Allah tells us in the Quran: “and do not dispute, you will become weak and your wind (power) will go away”.

The reality is while we may be apparently celebrating Eid; the enemies of Allah are rejoicing at our internal disputes and they are in fact celebrating Eid.

While we recognize the need for unity in the political front, we also need to unite in our communities and families. There is no point in emphasising on unity in the political front when we remain disunited in our families and communities. A united community gives rise to a united nation. In unity lies our pride and strength.

The Darul Iftaa wishes all Muslims a very happy Eid Mubarak.
