Prayer

Almighty Allah has blessed us with so many bounties that it is impossible to enumerate the bounties of Allah Ta’ala. While we are required to thank Allah for His innumerable bounties, we will never be able to fulfill the right of thanking Allah. No one can ever fulfill the right of thanking Allah. We will still have to thank Allah for the Tawfeeq and ability to thank Him and that will go on and on.

We should verbally thank Allah for His bounties on us to the best of our abilities. Obedience to Allah and fulfilling the obligations towards Allah is the actual Shukr.

To disobey Allah is the greatest form of ungratefulness. We use His bounties to disobey Him, Astaghfirullah.

In order to induce the spirit of Shukr in us, think of the various bounties of Allah upon us.

  • What if I was insane?
  • What if I was blind?
  • What if I was deaf?
  • What if I was crippled?
  • What if I could not walk?

What if…? What if…? What if…?

Such questions will help us to realize the bounties of Allah and lead us to the recognition of Allah.

Thanking Allah should be with heart, tongue, and deeds and should continue all the time in various ways,be it by reading the Quran, Zikr, Nafl Salah, Sadaqah in the path of Allah etc.

Question:

Please can you explain in detail how to perform Salatul Hajaat?

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Salah al- Hajah is a direct emergency line to Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala). When one is faced with any difficulty in life, one should make use of this call centre which is open twenty four hours a day, seven days a week throughout the entire year.

The method of performing Salah al- Hajah is as follows:

One should first make Wudhu in the best manner, perform two rakaats of Salaah, praise and glorify Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala), send Durood on Rasullullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) and then recite the following Du’aa:

لاإله إلا الله الحليم الكريم سبحان الله رب العرش العظيم الحمد لله رب العالمين أسئلك موجبات رحمتك وعزائم مغفرتك والغنيمة من كل بر والسلامة من كل إثم لا تدع لي ذنبا الا غفرته ولا هما إلا فرجته ولا حاجة هي لك رضا إلا قضيتها يا أرحم الراحمين

Transliteration: Lā ilāha illallāhul-halīmul-karīm subhānallāhi rabil-a’rshil-a’dhīm al-hamdu lillahi rabil-ā’lamīn asaluka mūjibāti rahmatik wa a’zāima maghfiratik wal-ghanīmata min kulli birr was-salāmata min kulli ithm lā tada’ lī dhamban illā ghafartah wa lā hamman illa farrajtah wa lā hājatan hiya laka ridhan illa qadhaytahā yā arhamar-rāhimīn

Translation: There there no god but Allah the Clement and Wise. There is no god but Allah the High and Mighty. Glory be to Allah, Lord of the Tremendous Throne.  All praise is to Allah, Lord of the worlds.  I ask you (O Allah) everything that leads to your mercy, and your tremendous forgiveness, enrichment in all good, and freedom from all sin. Do not leave a sin of mine (O Allah), except that you forgive it, nor any concern except that you create for it an opening, nor any need in which there is your good pleasure except that you fulfill it, O Most Merciful!.[1]

Keep the heart completely focused towards Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) when performing Salah al- Hajah.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best

Mufti Ebrahim Desai.

I'tikaaf

The observation of I'tikaaf during the last ten days of Ramadaan was the continuous practice of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam. The devotion that Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam attached to this beautiful Sunnah can be understood by the fact that on the occasion that he was unable to observe I'tikaaf, due to being out on an expedition, he observed twenty days of I'tikaaf the following year.

Undisturbed seclusion in the Masjid is indeed an excellent way to exclusively engage oneself in personal communication with Allah Ta'aala. Away from the comfort of the home, family members and daily work routine, I'tikaaf enhances one's proximity to Allah Ta'ala and secures the internal and external purification of the Mu'takif.

Ibn Abbas Radhiyallahu Anhu reports that Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam said; “Whosoever performs I'tikaaf for a day thereby seeking the pleasure of Allah Ta'ala, Allah Ta'ala will open three trenches between him and the fire of hell, the width of each (trench) being the distance between the heaven and the earth.” (Tabraani)
